Nearness cofounders Casper ter Kuile and Alec Gewirtz approached EJ in early 2022 with a challenge to develop an identity "worthy of reverence" for their new venture, a community and curriculum designed to help people reconnect with spirituality outside of organized religion. EJ worked with Casper and Alec from a very early stage, developing the orignal brand, as well as designing and implementing their website, developing marketing materials, and creating key assets to support the first cohort of members through their journey.
In late 2023, Nearness pivoted to focus on facilitating deep connection agnostic of subject matter or spiritual affiliation. As a result, they needed a brand that was more universally accessible in order to adapt to a broader audience and a wider range of contexts. Casper and Alec returned to EJ with this new direction, which resulted in Nearness's current identity, website, and marketing materials.
